Dhaka – Vibrant & Vocal (1983,2003,2013)

There was a time when we used to live in Agartala on the border with Bangladesh and crossed over a few times, once going upto Dhaka by road. In 2003, I attended a week-long regulatory workshop in Dhaka and was escorted by my dear friend Saleque Sufi to every nook and cranny and proudly shown all the historic spots. We piled on to a cyclerickshaw and the chatty rickshawallah pedalled us furiously to Mirpur, the khazana of the most dazzling Jamdhani sarees some of which I still have and am looking for an occasion to flaunt! The last visit in 2013 was brief, when the city was sizzling with protests against the razaaker and I drove through as part of the Kolkata-Kunming car rally! These pictures are from my last visit.
